Pilot Your Own Pirate Ship In or Out of Water With This Boat

We haven’t done a solid Hot Wheels review in some time, mainly because two of our three kids don’t play with them as often. But our eight year old son still loves these toy cars. He recently scored a Hot Wheels Pirate Ship from Walmart for the holidays, and he loves to play with this set.

This set comes with the giant pirate ship, which can be used on land or water. It speeds along on wheels and rolls for easy maneuvering. In the bathtub or pool, it floats. And it comes with color-changing tentacles along the bottom of the boat, like some of my son’s favorite cars. It also includes a car, an alligator, a treasure chest, and a barrel. But the best part is the giant purple octopus. Push the orange buttons along the side of this sea monster to grab a car. It also has lights and sound to add even more fun. 

Hot Wheels can go spinning around the track inside the ship. Get cars rolling thanks to the orange platform at the top, which lifts to set them racing. But watch out! Take a wrong turn and a trap door drops cars into the alligator pit. Roll across the top of the trapdoor to an exit in the back, and hope your momentum pushes the door open. The cannon fires one of the two projectiles that comes with the set. Bypass the trap and land in a rescue boat that can carry one car and launches from the back. Doors in the hull made to look like a skull and crossbones hide plenty of room for stolen booty. Or use the extra area tucked inside to store cars when not in play.

As a parent, I find this set much better than a lot of the others Hot Wheels offers. Despite its size, it takes up much less space than alternative options. (I’m looking at you, Hot Wheels Monster Truck Race!) My son has found so many different ways to play and explore with this toy. Even when he leaves it in the middle of the floor, it occupies less room than most track layouts.
