  • What: Our Favorite Travel Booster Seat
  • When: 5 years and up
  • Why: Lightweight, long lasting, affordable
  • Where: On the go

With spring break right around the corner, we’re taking three kids cross country. And one thing we never leave home without? Our favorite travel booster seat. We love the Graco TurboBooster for its lightweight versatility.

We’ve used this seat as a spare at home for at least four years. Because it comes apart so easily, it fits into the trunk without hogging all the storage space. We also love to travel with it. You can use it either as a highback belt-positioning booster for younger kids, or a backless booster for old kids. And unlike some of the tiny inflatable options, the base includes not one but two cup holders. When you’re away from home, having space to keep kid drinks and toys proves extremely handy.

Having two cup holders that can collapse makes a big difference on the go.

We haven’t yet rented a vehicle that is incompatible with this seat, even in foreign countries. The highback portion helps keep the seat belt positioned correctly, which keeps kids safer and makes them more comfortable by avoiding rubbing the belt against their neck. The narrow base means it can fit three across in a lot of situations. And because it doesn’t require LATCH, you don’t have to worry about installing it. Just toss it onto the seat and let your kid climb in.

Kids have no trouble using this seat, and getting the seat belt to fasten or go through the guides. The bright red sections also make it easy for other caregivers to use. And with the low price point, you can buy one and use it for years. It fits kids from 40 to 100 pounds and up to 57 inches tall. That’s only three inches under five feet, so you know it will serve you for some time to come.

The red areas for the seat belt path make it easy for kids and caregivers to use correctly.

As an added bonus, you can toss the two pieces in the overhead compartment if you don’t want to deal with checked luggage. Or, like most car seats, you can check it for free with many airlines. If you tuck it inside a car seat travel bag, you can typically toss in a few extra items like diapers or coats in the same bag to save yourself hauling things or paying luggage charges.

If you want one booster seat that can go anywhere without busting the budget, get your own Graco TurboBooster.
