Ever taken a peek inside your child’s school bag? Want to know what they haul around every day? If you’ve ever been curious to peek inside another child’s backpack, here’s your chance.

My oldest son, at age twelve, has a backpack that weighs a ton. He has it stuffed with a variety of school supplies, like pencils, notebooks, colored paper, and every piece of paper he’s ever worked on at school. In addition to his backpack, he loves to carry a zippered binder on a strap to keep everything contained. Inside his bag, you’ll find a water bottle, rocks, sticks, and often a football or other sporting equipment, and probably a few dollar bills crumpled up somewhere.

My daughter, at age eleven, keeps her backpack in pristine condition. She has a rainproof cover in case of inclement weather, and a full water bottle. She tucks her school planner into the bag among all her school supplies. She packs hand sanitizer, sunscreen, and often has a pair of sunglasses, too.

My youngest child, age eight, who spends more time outdoors, always takes his folding seat pad inside his bag. He also has a zippered pouch full of toys to share with friends, as well as his lunch box and any snacks for the day. He often shoves his favorite Hatley fleece or jacket in there, along with a sun hat when it isn’t on his head. And frequently you’ll find multiple books he’s reading as well.
While my kids differ dramatically in their personality and style, they never fail to pack their own bags with things they love and things they each use. What’s in your child’s bag?
