I don’t know about you, but here in the Pacific Northwest fall has arrived. With it comes plenty of wet weather. My kids still want to be outside, whether it’s for 5K fundraisers or playing with friends at the park. If you want to keep your kids dry and comfortable in rainy conditions, look no further than REI’s Rainwall Rain Pants for kids.

We’ve owned multiple pairs of these pants for years. That’s not because the pants wear out. But with three kids who spent an entire school year outside during the pandemic, we got picky about their outdoor gear. These pants have stood up to regular everyday use for six hours a day or more. Our pairs have been through multiple other kids before we got our legs in them, and they still work wonderfully to keep kids dry and warm.

The elastic waist makes these pants easy to get on and off, while a drawstring helps adjust the size. They fit over fleece pants and other regular clothing in a cinch. The nylon material offers protection from both water and wind without overheating. The generous sizing means my kids can wear these for years at a time, without having to reinvest in a new pair constantly.

One of our pairs has the knee split after about three years of constant wear (and another family using them regularly prior to us). Otherwise, all three still offer excellent protection from inclement weather. The only downside to these pants is that they only come in black. But their durability and the wide size range more than make up for the lack of color selection. You can get these pants to fit kids from age four to 18. Have younger kids? They also offer a toddler version for kids ages two to four.

Whether your child attends outdoor preschool or wants to practice soccer in the rain without wringing water out of their clothes afterwards, these pants provide plenty of protection for kids of all ages.
