Keep the Fun Corralled With These Organization Ideas

- What: Game Storage Ideas
- When: 2 years and up
- Why: Space saving, organized, tidy
- Where: At home
Do you live in a game-loving household? Have board games for kids taken over all your storage space? Tired of the games falling out every time you open the closest door? Whether you lack closet space or want to keep your games more organized, these storage ideas can help tame the sprawl. (As a reminder, games with small pieces should be stored safely away from little hands. Avoid choking hazards by putting games for older kids up high, or behind doors for an extra layer of safety.)

Drawers: Drawers make a great option for smaller games. From card games to games that come in irregular containers (I’m looking at you, Rush Hour!), tucking things inside a drawer helps limit the teetering stacks. Use multiple drawers for growing collections or sort by type or age into different sections.

Bins: Bins offer some of the same advantages as drawers, but with even more options. These versatile containers can be stored on the floor of the closet, on the top shelf, or even on bookshelves. Bins come in a variety of sizes and materials, so you can get them to fit your collection. Clear bins make it easy to see what’s inside, while fabric bins can bring some added flair to any decor.

Shelves: Shelves of any type also work great for game storage. Smaller boxes can stand vertically on bookshelves, making it easy to remove any one without disturbing the others. Shelving systems can corral even the biggest game collection. Wire shelves offer affordable organization inside closets and other storage spaces. Otherwise, you can invest in bigger shelving systems with or without doors to contain the collection.

Under the Table: Keep your favorite games close at hand when you store them under the table where you play. A shelf underneath the table can hold bigger boxes that won’t fit in drawers, bins, or shelves. If you don’t have a coffee or side table with shelving built in, consider a rolling cart to tuck games away when not in use. When you get ready to play, simply grab your favorite box and set it up on the table to make gaming more accessible for everyone.
Or combine any of these methods for a system tailored to your needs. A bin tucked under a table or drawers integrated into shelving solutions gives you lots of flexibility as you and your kids’ collection grows.
