Don’t Toss Those Tiny Chip Bits

- What: Tortilla Chip Crumb Uses
- When: Pregnancy to college
- Why: Economical, tasty, easy
- Where: At home
Did you host friends or family for New Year’s Eve or the first day of the year? Or spend the afternoon or evening watching college football playoffs? Perhaps your resolution includes wasting less food.
If you had tortilla chips for any of your holiday occasions, you probably ended up with the pesky crumbs at the bottom of the bag. Before you dump the bits too small to scoop guacamole or dip into salsa, try this tip. Instead of throwing them out or feeding them to the dog, use them as a tasty addition to soups and salads.

Those same small crumbs that make a mess can turn a salad into something more sophisticated. Top your next southwest salad with the small pieces for some extra crunch. Much like mini tortilla strips, they will add flavor and texture, without costing you anything.
Or use them to top your next batch of chili or tortilla soup. They make great accessories, especially when paired with shredded cheese and sour cream. Kids (and adults!) love assembling their own bowls with just the right amount to suit themselves.
Next time you find an almost empty bag, put the crumbs to good use before you toss the trash.
