Great Additions To Any Young Kid’s Library

- What: Gallop! book
- Why: Moving images fascinate kids of all ages
- Where: Amazon
All three of my kids obsessed over these “Scanimation” picture books. The pictures move as the pages turn, and no matter the subject matter, they’ve all loved watching the effects.
We’ve owned Swing! for so many years that I can’t remember where it first came from. But it’s lasted through all three kids despite their very varied interests, and is still in regular rotation today. While I don’t think it’s the stellar writing captivating them, I applaud the original concept in the world of kids’ books. Despite not technically being a board book per say, our copy has held up extremely well to more than the average number of page turns. It is suitable for kids from birth, though my kids didn’t take notice until around four to six months of age.
Swing! features more sports oriented themes such as baseball, ice skating, and swimming for the moving picture action. Gallop! offers animals such as horses, turtles, and butterflies flitting through their motions. And Waddle! also has moving animals, but the pictures show color instead of just black and white.
If you need a great addition to your kids’ bookshelf or a gift for someone who loves books, I highly recommend Gallop!, Swing!, or Waddle!. If none of those appeal to your audience, the same author also has ABC Animals!, Star Wars, and Peanuts books utilizing the same technique for moving pictures.
