You split cards equally between two to six people. Players take turns flipping over cards from their facedown deck face up into a center pile. If you spot a match, you slap it and call out “Slamwich!” Seems simple, right? But you can also create a sandwich with a different card between a matching cards and slap that. Every time you slap a stack, you keep the entire center deck of flipped over cards by adding them unshuffled to the bottom of your stack.

Three types of cards from slamwich game include muncher, thief, and food cards in shape of sandwich bread
Slamwich cards come in three different types: food, thief, or muncher.

But watch out! In addition to 44 food cards with images ranging from eggs and bacon to vegetables and peanut butter or jelly, two other types of cards will keep you on your toes. Thief cards require you to slap them and yell “Stop Thief!” before you can swipe the stack. Forget to say the right words, and the first person to say them gets the stack instead.

Spot a sandwich – a different card between two identical ones – and be the first to slap it and yell out Slamwich to collect the deck.

Throw a muncher card onto the pile, and the next player has to stop you from taking the center deck. Each muncher has a number between 1 and 3. That’s how many cards another player gets to try and stop the person who tossed down the muncher card. Come up with a pair, a sandwich, or a thief, and the deny the muncher all those cards. Run out of cards and you’re out of the game.

The game moves quickly once you recognize the different types of cards. My kids like to toss their cards so they see them first, which goes against the rules. They can also get frustrated with their slower slapping speeds at the start, but they soon get quicker than me and their stack builds up again. An entire game takes about 20 minutes start to finish, so you can always play again after the first round. If you run out of time, you can stop at any point and the player with the most cards wins.

Watch out. The realistic pictures on cards shaped like slices of bread might leave you with an appetite for more.
