Melissa and Doug make quality wooden toys, and for the most part, I prefer them to the cheaper plastic counterparts. My daughter and I both fell in love with the trailer and excavator during her obsession with all things digger, and my son continues to love these toys today.

The toys have definitely stood the test of time. My daughter loved the digger on a flatbed trailer so much that her grandmother got the same one to have for her to play with at her house. If you invest in both the excavator and the steamroller and skid steer, the trailers can easily interchange with each other. We own both.

Beware, though, and don’t fall into the same trap I did. The connections don’t play well with their wooden world vehicles sets, like the luggage carrier or race car loader, though they work just fine with the car carrier and emergency vehicle carrier. Trying to make them connect can really frustrate kids, and even as an adult, I find it irksome that all their vehicles don’t use the same type of connection.
