  • What: Slide and Find Truck book
  • When: Six months to four years
  • Why: Durable, interactive, affordable
  • Where: Amazon

We recently rediscovered our Slide and Find truck book. By rediscovered, I mean we finally got around to cleaning the kids’ bookshelf in an attempt to make room for upcoming gifting occasions. While both my six and eight year old agreed to part with this particular favorite, my four year old refuses to let go. I agree with him. This gift for my eldest son’s first birthday, much like our My First Laptop, has stood the test of time. We got ours seven years ago, and my youngest still loves it.

This large board book features chunky pages. Each page, as well as the front cover, has sliding flaps that can be opened to reveal hidden pictures. Like all of Roger Priddy’s fabulous board books, the real photos of big vehicles with brightly colored backgrounds capture the attention of little ones. My son loves sliding the flaps back and forth, and older kids can practice their reading skills with the simple text.

Kids can slide the flaps and match the photos.

Each page poses a question like which truck carries what? Move the flaps to find the answers, but be prepared to read it over and over again. It makes a fine read even without the words, since kids can slide the flaps and match the images to the ones on the left hand page without any adult assistance.

Some flaps have simple words that work well for beginning readers, too.
