If you need an advent calendar for younger kids and don’t want to introduce a piece of chocolate every day, check out Playmobil’s 123 brand of Advent calendar. The 123 toys from Playmobil are aimed at kids under three, and contain no loose pieces posing choking hazards, including their advent calendars.
Each door opens to reveal another toy in the set’s theme, usually centered around a winter wonderland or Christmas on the farm. All 24 doors have a plastic toy safe for little ones, and some toys can combine for even more fun. For instance, the sleigh and the reindeer hook together after your child opens both those doors.

We stumbled upon this option for smaller kids when we needed a safe alternative for our youngest child with serious nut allergies. It works well for kids around age 2, who can understand the concept of opening one door a day, or for kids with older siblings who want their own fun advent calendar filled with toys. Much like our beloved Playmobil 123 zoo set, all the pieces can be submerged in water with no ill effects. Or for younger kids, submerged in saliva.
