Get Hooked on Easy Storage
- What: IKEA Bjarnum Folding Wall Hooks
- When: Birth to college
- Why: Affordable, compact, easy to use
- Where: Amazon or IKEA
Maybe you don’t have room for a wall-mounted coat rack at your kids’ height. But if you still want to add some easy storage space without losing any square footage, grab a few of these folding wall hooks from IKEA.
Called Bjarnum by the giant Swedish home store, these hooks come in a three pack for $10. Use one or several anyplace you want to hang your kids’ things, from backpacks and jackets to dress up clothes and decorations. We’ve installed them on both walls and doors so each kid has a designated space for their school backpack. We rarely fold them up, but for tight spaces that feature comes in handy when not in use.

If you can’t make the trek to IKEA and don’t want to order online, Amazon offers the same hooks for a slightly higher price. Spending more for the convenience might pay off, since these sturdy hooks come in multiples. We used a drill to install ours, and you have to provide your own hardware. One of ours came loose, and we’ve since re-secured it, but that has more to do with 100 year old wall construction (and lack of proper wall anchors) than with the product itself.

These hooks easily hold my kids’ backpacks, which can weigh very little to almost as much as my kids. They have been known to cart around rocks, full water bottles, and much more dense items in their bags. These hooks have held it all, and allow each kid easy access to their belongings. Plus, they keep the bags off the floor and from cluttering up the coat rack or front entry.
