Unless Someone Cares
- What: The Lorax
- When: 18 months and up
- Why: Entertaining, classic, fun
- Where: Amazon
Our library has opened for the first time in almost six months. I asked my kids what books they wanted, and my five year old son’s top request? The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.
If you haven’t read this cautionary rhyming tale with your kids, there’s no time like the present. Even though it was published almost 50 years ago, the message still holds true today. Yet the serious lesson comes packaged with Seuss’s whimsical characters and pleasing rhymes, complete with some nonsense words like the Once-ler.

Treat yourself and your kids to this sweet story of what can happen when warnings aren’t heeded, and all the native inhabitants get kicked out in favor of temporary monetary gains. Your child may not get the bigger picture, but it serves as a reminder to all of how much it matters to stand up for what’s right.

If your kids really love the Lorax, you can also watch the cartoon movie version, released in 2012. No matter which version you choose, you can enjoy this classic time and time again with your family.
