The kit comes with a plastic cloth to cover your work surface. It also includes a pair of plastic gloves to protect hands from colors, though depending on how many people participate, you will probably want extra gloves on hand. You get 14 colors, each in its own bottle with a color coordinated lid so you can tell them apart at a glance. Simply add water to the fill line, shake, and you can use the dye for up to 72 hours to create all sorts of works of art.

Each bottle comes with a color-coordinated lid.

The simple three step instructions also include design guidelines for eight different patterns, from ombre to spiral designs kids and adults will both love. It also comes with a stash of rubber bands to help bundle fabric before dying. You can even use the included clear plastic bin as a container for the dying process, though it only works for one person at a time.

The plastic container holds all the contents and can double as a place to dye as well.

Add your own cloth materials and you’re all set to dye. My kids did white t-shirts, but this activity also works well on cloth placemats, sheets, or even wrapping paper. Make one of a kind gifts for friends and relatives. Projects will need to be bagged to stay wet for 6-8 hours, so plan accordingly if you want to send shirts home with others. Once the colors have set, rinse with hot water to remove excess dye and wash them to complete the process. I highly recommend this as an outdoor activity, since the dye is permanent.

Dying makes a great outdoor activity in good weather.

Let your kids loose with the colors and see what they make.
