King Sized Value in a Compact Setup

- When: 3 years and up
- Why: Compact, versatile, affordable
- Where: IKEA
Maybe your guest bedroom has been transformed into a home office. Perhaps the vaccine distribution means you can finally welcome friends and family into your home overnight. Or perhaps you want a little extra room and more options in your child’s bedroom. Whatever the reason, you can’t go wrong with the Hemnes Daybed from IKEA.

This convertible daybed switches from a twin bed to a king sized one. Pull out the trundle, unstack the mattresses, and voila! You’ve gone from a small bed to a huge one that can easily accommodate two people. Even better, the Hemnes Daybed comes with three drawers built into the space underneath the trundle. These drawers work wonders for keeping bed linens handy, or toys neatly corralled.

If you’re tired of skirting a larger bed to get to your makeshift home office, this bed can open up some floor space and make room for better office furniture. If you have a kid and want to host sleepovers, the extra trundle bed makes that possible without having to waste any square footage. This bed can easily accommodate adults, meaning it will grow with your child from preschool to the teen years.
Switch from one size bed to the other with ease by pulling out the large trundle frame. You can use twin sheets, or put a king sized sheet over both mattresses. While the IKEA bed frame doesn’t quite fit standard size twin mattresses perfectly, you can still use them. We’ve used these two twin mattresses on our Hemnes for years. Choose your mattress thickness, but keep in mind they will be stacked on top of each other when in daybed mode.

The daybed comes in white or a darker black brown color, though you could easily paint it to match any decor. It comes unassembled, so you have to put some time into putting the pieces together. We have moved ours once, which required mostly disassembling and reassembling the entire thing. While I wouldn’t recommend doing so frequently, it broke down into pieces that made it easier to transport up and down stairs. The wheeled trundle works better on smooth floors, but requires a little more effort to get rolling on carpet and thicker floor coverings.
If you want more functionality and versatility in your bedroom layout, look no further than this convertible daybed.
