Big Nate originally appeared in the popular comic strip by author Lincoln Pierce. Pierce has since penned eight chapter books capturing the ups and downs of middle school drama for readers everywhere. Nate, a sixth grader at P.S. 38 middle school, has unbounded confidence, despite setbacks like regular attendance at detention and mediocre grades.

The collection of eight books follows Nate through various challenges of middle school, including their big rivalry with neighboring Jefferson Middle School. Together with his friends, Francis, Teddy, and Dee Dee, Nate gets into and out scrapes with his big attitude.
