Would you like to see a women’s clothing company that doesn’t discriminate based on size? What if one retailer could offer the same garments to anyone, from petite to plus sizes? Guess what? Universal Standard does exactly that.
I’ve written about my addiction to Universal Standard’s Mystery Boxes multiple times, both in 2023 and 2022. While I can’t bring myself to pay full retail price for their clothes, I still want to support a company who champions size inclusivity. That’s why I shop Universal Standard, and encourage others to do the same.
This company makes clothing for everyone’s bodies, regardless of size. You won’t find any fat shaming here. And the first thing you need to know is that they base their sizes on actual women. That means a medium in Universal Standard fits a size 18 to 20 in other brands. If you’re new to the brand, make sure you read carefully to get the right size.
You would think a brand based on universal size would have no trouble keeping sizes consistent, but that’s not the case here. Depending on the style, sizes can vary widely, even in the same category. While that provides plenty of options for different body types and shapes, it can make getting the correct fit tricky. Make sure you review the size charts on each garment to check the measurements.
You will find a wide range of clothes, from lounge, athleisure and basics, to suiting, dresses, and investment pieces. The company offers sales and discounts throughout the year, which can be a great time to try the brand. You can also shop secondhand to find lots of pieces barely used or never worn, thanks to places like the Facebook Buy/Sell/Trade group dedicated to Universal Standard and other sites like Poshmark.
I want my daughter to grow up unconcerned about her clothing size or counting calories. And I believe every woman deserves clothes that fit her body and make her feel like a million bucks. So although I don’t have a million bucks to spend on clothing, I’ll continue to support a size-inclusive company that puts diversity first whenever I can.
